ScholarMatch is seeking a full-time, non-exempt Community Outreach Coordinator to play an important role in our growing non-profit. The Community Outreach Coordinator will support community outreach and engagement efforts with high schools, community-based organizations, and other regional partners in the Greater Los Angeles Area to connect high school students with our programs. This position reports to the Director of College Access.

This position is ideal for a candidate who has a passion for our mission and strong relationship-building skills. This position is remote, but candidates must reside in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Occasional travel, in-person event attendance, and evening or weekend hours may be required. 

This is a union position and is grant funded until June 2026 with a possible extension based on available funding. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Build relationships and partnerships with high schools, families, community-based organizations, community residents, local organizations, and other community stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the Programming Lead to promote, schedule, coordinate, and present ScholarMatch’s programs, activities, and educational materials to neighborhoods, schools, community groups, individuals, and other interested parties
  • Collaborate with the Programming Lead to coordinate and facilitate virtual and in-person informational and educational sessions in both English and Spanish
  • Input and track outreach data into internal database
  • Respond to general inquiries from educators, community members, and other interested parties through email, phone, etc. 
  • Attend virtual and in-person community events  to build awareness of ScholarMatch and support program promotion
  • Assist in working with nonprofit and school partners to identify students eligible for ScholarMatch’s programs
  • Assist in working with partners and community organizations to identify potential volunteers
  • Coordinate the tracking and review of student applications, confirming program eligibility, and following up with applicants as needed
  • Create, update, coordinate, and disseminate customized communications kits, templates, and links to promote ScholarMatch programs  
  • Collaborate with the Communications & Marketing Manager, Volunteer Manager, and Program Director to disseminate information using digital media platforms 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Two (2) years of professional experience, expertise, and knowledge around issues facing first-generation, low-income college students
  • Experience and comfort in engaging in direct communications with students, families, and school personnel
  • Fluency or advanced proficiency in Spanish 
  • Advanced proficiency in Google Suite and database management 
  • Excellent written communication skills 
  • Must be able to hold sensitive information confidential, and navigate urgent and/or sensitive student issues with care, maturity, and responsibility
  • Must be able to perform all functions of this position within what would be deemed to be reasonable accommodations
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities throughout the organization
  • Must be comfortable working in an anti-racist organization with a diverse group of external callers and visitors, and internal staff at all levels

Preferred but not Required

  • Knowledge of Basecamp and Airtable
  • Experience with macOS operating systems and related applications
  • Experience with Canva

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

Starting salary is commensurate with experience, regional location, and is based on a competitive public interest salary scale.

The salary range for this position is: $50,000 - $54,017
